Movies

letmewatchthat!

I’ve been watching a MASSIVE amount of movies these days…through my trusted free movie streaming website – www.letmewatchthis.ch

Some video hosting websites are not available in this country or have limited bandwidth. Usually, I watch from putlocker, sockshare, veehd, novamov. I like to watch random stuff…most of the time it’s surprisingly good! I judge what movies that I will watch by it’s actors and actresses (If I heard about them before) , directors, and by users’ comments. Comments and critics from movie lovers can be trusted, sometimes more than professional movie critics! They have a certain point of view and expectation through their in depth involvement in the entertainment world…but truly, whether a movie is critically acclaimed/hyped/lukewarm responses/gets a low rating, it doesn’t really matter…

What matters is our own take and view about the movie. Or if we’re a fan of some actors in it…to put it simply, just watch anything that interests you in any way. Chances are the professional movie critics doesn’t/never see the movie as how you see it. Other people might not see it as well…it’s hard not to be judgmental, so, try to open your mind and watch it. This is the kind of people you’d want to bring along to a movie night at home.

I made this list of 7 kinds of tricky people you’ll need to handle for a good movie time :

1. Anti Climax – Master critic! Notices every little flaws of a movie. Sometimes they can be funny, though. Funny but annoying.

2. Know-it-all – Figures out every twists and turns in the movie (really clever one this is) but the problem is that they break the secret to us not so clever people.lol

3. Asking too much – Just watch and try to understand it yourself before attacking everyone with questions! Even more annoying when they came up halfway and expecting everyone to summarise…

4. Perfectionist – Nothing ever measure up to their expectations. They should make their own movie I guess.

5. Discuss, discuss – This can be good, for movies like Inception. But some people can’t tolerate these kind of people because they disrupt the focus. We’re listening to them talking than watch the movie for clues.

6. The Pessimist – To them ; no one survives, no hopes to be saved, no story ever ends happily. Sometimes the movie is predictable like that, but it would be better to think that Emile Hirsch (Into The Wild) will be found at the end, right??

7. Killjoys – They don’t like the movie but still tags around…they just want to spend time with the group. But is super annoying when they try to ‘convert’ us like ‘Why are this movie so retarded?’ or ‘Do you actually believe this thing??’ throughout the movie. Ugh I’m not easily swayed by such comments…

My younger brother annoys me the most when watching movies…he likes to be the smartest among us by predicting the ending and talk us through so that we will agree to him. lol!!! I hate it…Anyways, the best way to watch anything experimental/B movies/Indie Movies is ALONE.

absorbed…

So I’m back to the most addictive game on the planet, World of Warcraft!!! It has been so long (Sept. 2010). I’m currently picking up new things and features of the new patch and extension (Cataclysm) fast as to familiarise myself. Today I played 7-8 hours for starters. It has consumed like half of my day. But when I’ve reached a stagnant point I play for just 3 hours a day.

And on Facebook, my friends started stalking me up as I can’t be contacted by any other way except the internet. The fate of my phone and sim card, well, to be honest I don’t really care. Sometimes I like that I can’t be reached. I realize that some people REALLY do want/need to get to me, but as lazy as I can be, I would just laid the issue to rest by doing nothing. Or doing something really slow. But then again, I get guilt stabs once in a while, and I pity my friends (really close friends) that they have a friend like me. A friend who likes to be on her own rather than with anyone…and I make it obvious.

It’s not simple like that though. I can picture the person that I was back in school, so different. I would go all out just to choose friend over family, friend over self. But now I know that it’s all cows***. I can’t pinpoint why I turn to be this way; neglecting contact with real persons. With friends.

It’s so easy to escape into the world of video games. Having a life in-game. I don’t have to deal with trivial matters in my life. This sounds weird, I know.haha But I can agree to gamers that we do feel when we play. When making decisions, I put my head on it, trying to think of the best way to excel. In a way, gaming has taught me many things, things I can’t explain without sounding like a total weird geek loser.

The way I chose to handle it is, holidays are for family. Back to class/semester, I search ‘em friends up! So…whatever damage I had done to my friendships, I’ll mend it back again no matter what. Those who will stay or stand me, they can accept it. Other than that, I will do nothing…It’s selfish. I can’t seem to commit, especially when I’m not obliged to. However I want to see it, I still suck. =(

everyday is holiday

I really can’t think of a good title – I suck at that. I usually try to think something too much, like too ‘bombastic’…which I myself don’t like…So, I just named it with songs or movies or quotes or anything that I’m currently in.lol

Anyway, this post has long overdue (I kept saying that but I don’t push myself to start writing). I want to write about the music I’m mad about nowadays :

51hZBIvZI8L._SL600_ Albert hammond jr. – yours to keep [2006]

This is the guitarist from The Strokes debut solo album. I don’t really like the songwriting part (coz I like to think veeeeryy much about lyrics) but the album has been a regular on my playlist. I particularly love In transit. I think it brings on the feeling of being reckless and headstrong…The chorus is very memorable, partly because the timing is so right in the ‘In Transit’ video of The Strokes back in 2001 (during Julian is driving away on a motorcycle and it caused me to be a little sad LOL) blue skies has good tunes, and Hard to live (in the city) is another favourite!

yoshimi-battles-the-pink-robots yoshimi battles the pink robots – the flaming lips [2002]

I’ve never really checked out The Flaming Lips other than from soundtracks…but then fight test was really intriguing. It’s new to me. I’ve never heard of such..cosmic thing going around (I can likened it to Muse).haha I don’t know how to explain it, but that’s the feeling of the whole album! It’s GENIUS and MAGICAL, mysterious and eerie too as they always seems to talk about the future, life and death. Things that we can never know. do you realize?? is epic!!! The lyrics are so simple yet so true. It makes you think. I even think of making a post about that song alone. =D TFL’s Wayne Coyne is surely a genius, no doubt. ego tripping at the gates of hell is kind of a playful song though the lyrics are about unrequited love.(???) But my favourite has to be in the morning of the magicians. Wayne’s high voice is a natural…it’s add to the atmosphere of the song. It’s sad and a pessimist song. Beautiful.

Phrazes-for-the-Young-casablancas-cover phrazes for the young – julian casablancas [2009]

THE guy from The Strokes. Apart from his undeniable excess of cuteness (despite his age lol) and highly publicized marriage to their band manager, Julian’s flair for songwriting is a proven fact, he’s way better than any other guys on The Strokes…chords of the apocalypse showcase a clever use of words to explain what’s in the mind of a guy when in a rough patch of a relationship. ‘What’s funny then, isn’t funny anymore..’ is simple but true. The music surrounding the song sometimes in chaos and calm, suggesting the uncertainty of the situation. ‘While we are waiting for this apocalypse..What more is there to do?’ Couples sitting beside each other, not saying anything. With racing thoughts such as these…haha out of the blue is also a gem. What’s he’s saying is honest and direct. I can totally relate to it. And the rest of the album is great! To me, it’s so unlike The Strokes. But of course, it’s a solo album lol. Heavy use of synthesizers and keyboards and guitars and…well that’s pretty much what my inexperienced ears can recognize. In tourist there are use of trumpets or something…I think that’s really interesting.

My favourite song is glass!! A bit disappointed when Julian said the song is about his wife (LOLOLOL get over yourself) Julian invented another word to associate with the word ‘Bullet’, which is very common in lyrics and songs…such as The Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet With Butterfly Wings or MCR’s Bulletproof Heart. While ‘Glass’ reminds me of Blondie’s Heart of Glass. These words made sense in explaining about a person’s fragile feelings, depicted as ‘Glass’, as in Julian’s ‘Glass’, this fragile heart is bulletproof. It’s strong and invulnerable without denying the fact that it is still fragile, like glass. The song is about him being protective to his wife.

Pretty baby, please just get out of the way – where it’s safe
Eyes will follow you, weapons can’t break through
Tears will swallow you, they all can see right through…
Bulletproof glass

Dominance and loyalty / romance and security
Just stay behind…
Bulletproof glass

higher-than-the-stars-ep

the pains of being pure at heart – higher than the stars ep [2009]

higher than the stars is a perfect reminiscent song, about everything young and vulnerable…I don’t know how they did it. Maybe it’s because of the monotonous way of Kip Berman singing together with the crisp sound of guitars and synthesizers. The first thing that struck me when listening to their self-titled album released after this one (I heard that first before their EP) is The Cure. They have some similarities in the sound, but Pains is of course, different. They are all so youthful, so carefree and careless…They bring about the sense of recklessness and being without experience. Their songs usually talks about young love and overall are themed about young people. And they all looks like models lol.

the-pains-at-being-pure-at-heart Their sound easily loved by me because all of the above, and that they are shifting in between shoegaze and indie-pop. Both are ALWAYS good to my ears, so Pains give me both. People said they’re Twee, but I never understand what exactly is a Twee sound? Probably in between the two? Anyways, I’m in progress of getting their 2011 album ‘Belong’.

*****

They are the ones with an album to dig. Other occasional songs in my playlist are ready to start – arcade fire , i want to be buried in your backyard – nightmare of you (loveee this song!!) or House/Trance remixes of fedde le grand along with the usual mainstream artists like taylor swift. ‘Fearless’ album is packed with lovely written songs. I think it’s her best album ever.

True Calling

[[ Yellow should be the official colour of Malaysian solidarity ]]

Salam.

I took so much time to finally start writing this post on Windows Live Writer. It has been so hard to crack up my mind to find suitable words to spell out my feelings and reactions about yesterday’s BERSIH 2.0 rally. There’s just so much that I want to talk about. After severe disappointment (albeit very expected) by the mainstream news bias coverage of the rally, I scour the internet to find and read latest news using my mother’s broadband (no streamyx!!!grrrr).

But the lies, WOW unbelievable.

If they say BERSIH 2.0 has scared off tourists and bring shame to the country, I’d say the government should be the ones ashamed by their unjust treatment and overreactions to the peaceful rally. Before 9th July, people can say stuff about the rally will never be a peaceful one, but look what happened! In the raw videos across YouTube, you can judge for yourself which side is peaceful. Tired to choose sides? Then you don’t have to, just use your innate humanity and compassion we’re all born with. The reality will speaks itself. For once in our lives, toss aside the racism and distrusts we all have within each races. Watch and learn something from 9th July 2011. Stupid racist people can say that only Malays mobilised an all-out participation, but heck, waves of thousands of Chinese rakyat came out from Bukit Bintang (mainly) and other waypoints. All the Malaysian people who believes in electoral reforms gather under BERSIH 2.0 and shouted ‘Bersih!’, ‘Hidup rakyat!’ among chanting ‘NegaraKu’ as opposed to mainstream media that shows ONLY the clip of people shouting ‘Reformasi!’. Though this could be regarded as severe paranoia in the government side, as we all know Anwar Ibrahim led movement back in (1999-2000?) used the word.

Been through all the big fat liars who go on TV for nights to come, my trust and belief that Malaysia can and will change is awoken once more. Some years before, I had the urge but it dissolved, then came PRU 2008. It came back, then clouded by too much rumours and scandals that colours our nation’s politics. I truly felt that I can never ever have, nor dreamed, of how my country should be.

Yesterday has been a punch in my face. A good punch so that I will never lose hope, that the people can really unite under one cause. I’m not an ungrateful Muslim Malaysian (as many close-minded pro gov people liked to accuse), and this is not an act of chaos. You see, the thing about this country is that we are showered with economic transformations, unlimited entertainment from world class entertainers, living in a strategically God given piece of land that is incredibly lucky to be safe from so many natural disasters that often struck our neighbouring countries….and so much wealth from our soils and beautiful natural tropical landscape attracting tourists all over the world…it seems perfect!

Typically, life is about getting comfortable. Unfortunately this way of life has taught us NOTHING but to be COWARDS, who stayed in the comfort zone for too long until we became numb and dumb. As the saying goes, too much of a good thing is unhealthy.

What happens when we started questioning ourselves,

what do we want from our country? What’s your vision of how your country should be?

Suddenly it struck me.

That we can be more than this. We should be more. What’s with those that Almighty God has given us, and the awareness of my capabilities, and most importantly MY RIGHTS that I can demand a better Malaysia, I couldn’t just sit and watch. To not care and to not feel anything is quite impossible. We’re so lucky to be here, yes correct. But is the current situation is enough? To evaluate the current situation, firstly one has to care about national politics. No point in being emotional without knowing the FACTS. And take every news on TV with a grain of salt. Our so called Democracy hasn’t released the mainstream media from the gov grip!

No government is perfect…that’s the whole point of the dissatisfaction. But events such as BERSIH 2.0 rally clearly showed that the rakyat has its powers. So what if it’s really backed by Opposition parties? So what if one day they rule the country and do the same damn thing of the current government? We the rakyat are aware of our rights, and to topple them is no big deal. The only thing we need is the awareness that we can. Once this is instilled, nobody can kill your spirit.

Look at mature countries like the US, to change parties in ruling government is so easy. Change is healthy!! No better example than Egypt. Look what happens to Mubarak regime? He ruled for f***ing 50 years or something. It’s crazy!

The difference between ‘grateful’ and ‘ungrateful’ Malaysian is that the ‘ungrateful’ know their powers and rights. Why can we ask for something we know we can and deserve to have?! How much is too much to ask? Apparently Malaysians (esp. Malays) cannot answer this, as we have grown to ACCEPT BUT NEVER ASK. Without being remorseful, I can say that is very stupid and impractical.

How many of us can say truthfully from our hearts “I love Malaysia”? I know I’m not. Not 100% truthful. And that’s incredibly shameful. Shameful as much as I’m ashamed of not being able to act, like on 9th July. A country and her countrymen, is a relationship of love and hate. As much as I love it, I hated it when it cause dissatisfaction, inequality, and hurt of being lied to. But any logical mind knows that a country does not runs on itself, it is run by our people who serves us rakyat as our government. In a way, we are their masters, because through a CLEAN electoral system they are chosen by us. We can make or break them, there’s no way they can be where they are now without the rakyat who votes them. It’s that simple. Through requests made through BERSIH, we can achieve freedom of press, and other vital features of a healthy election system – and politics.

Though I can totally understand why people object to the idea of a rally itself. I, for one is leaning to atypical way, more challenging and direct. I’m just tired of being a coward all my life…but it’s risky business, and it’s negative effects can be seen clearly. Malaysians are inherently gentle people, it’s hard not to flinch when a rally is proposed. But by knowing the real stories behind all the liars from the media,

what our country has gain on 9th July is far too precious and true to be defeated by the way it is conducted.

The media can throw in embellished accusations and twist the stories, but what really happens has happened. The 1Malaysia thing that the gov ‘chanted’ all the way has shown it’s colours through the rally. Saves the gov trouble to pay and invest millions in making 1Malaysia come true! It had never occurred to me that unconditional love to this country and it’s fellow countrymen no matter what differences that bridges us can be ignited in just one day and one event. Malaysia has got more Malaysians realized or started loving the country like never before. Sometimes we all have to learn in a harsh way…And that lesson would be vital for us to continue raising Malaysia’s standard as a true (bukan berlakon macam dalam iklan tuh) multi-racial gem. Any Malaysians that didn’t see it as priceless as it is, must be racist. I would like to know what else has caused them to reject the idea, however this seems to be the top reason.

I feel that I’m extremely lucky that this legendary day has happened now while I’m young. I have so many chances to ‘clean’ up my country’s government from liars and thieves and other rare species of people that benefits none but himself. There’s still a long way to go, but 9th July shining hope is a kickstart! Stuck in the backseat is no more. From now on, people’s voices will be heard. Every government that will rule the country should be prepared =]

Dear organisers of BERSIH 2.0 and my Malaysian people who act that day, Thank you for making it happen. You have no idea how many Malaysian hearts that you have touched.

“What is love and what is hate?

Why does it matter?

Is to love is just a waste?

How can it matter?”

The Flaming Lips : In The Morning of The Magicians

Don’t let your love to the country goes to waste, declare your love by start to care about national politics and exercise your rights in elections by voting. The way forward is through solidarity, unity, and the most crucial : People’s Power (Kuasa Rakyat) that no other better teacher than this 9th July (709) has taught me.
